Your First Colonic Hydrotherapy Appointment
If you’ve never experienced colonic hydrotherapy before, it’s completely understandable to have questions.
Here’s exactly what you can expect from your first appointment at Gut Feeling.
Before your appointment
Before attending, you’ll be asked to complete a health questionnaire.
Please answer this as fully and accurately as possible. It helps Geri understand relevant information about your health before your treatment and gives you an opportunity to highlight anything you would like to discuss.
If you have concerns about whether treatment is suitable for you, please raise them before your appointment.
Preparing for your appointment
- Stay normally well hydrated.
- Avoid unusually heavy meals immediately before your appointment.
- Follow any specific preparation instructions Geri provides when your appointment is confirmed.
- Continue prescribed medication unless a qualified healthcare professional has told you otherwise.
You do not need to undertake extreme fasting, cleansing or detoxification before attending.
When you arrive
Your appointment takes place at Gut Feeling’s private treatment location in Rhode, near Bridgwater.
Geri will welcome you and take some time to discuss your health questionnaire, explain the treatment and answer your questions.
Nothing should feel rushed. If there’s anything you’re nervous or embarrassed about, this is an ideal time to mention it.
During your treatment
Once you’re ready, Geri will explain how to prepare for the treatment.
Colonic hydrotherapy uses specialist equipment to introduce temperature-controlled filtered water gently into the large bowel.
Gut Feeling uses a closed system, with waste carried directly away through the equipment.
You remain appropriately covered throughout treatment and your dignity is protected.
You may experience sensations such as fullness, the urge to open your bowels or occasional abdominal cramping.
Geri may use gentle abdominal massage and will communicate with you throughout the treatment.
The treatment itself generally lasts around 45 minutes.
After your treatment
Everyone’s experience afterwards is different.
You may want to use the toilet immediately after your treatment and some people notice changes in their bowel movements for a short period afterwards.
Give yourself time after your appointment rather than arranging something unnecessarily rushed.
Geri will provide relevant aftercare information and you can ask any questions before leaving.
If you develop symptoms after treatment that concern you, seek appropriate medical advice.
Don't worry about being embarrassed
This deserves its own section because it’s one of the most common concerns.
Colonic hydrotherapy is Geri’s profession. Bowels, digestive habits and the things you might consider embarrassing are normal subjects in the treatment room.
Your appointment is private, you remain appropriately covered and the closed system carries waste directly away.
You don’t need to apologise, feel awkward or know the ‘right’ terminology. Just ask.
